Build a Review Follow-Up for Local Agency Clients

Build a review follow-up

Digital Cowboy / Joe’s Picks

For local marketing agencies. Sponsored by RepUpgrade.com.

A client finishes a job. The customer gets thanked. A review request goes out. Your agency can see what happened. That is the build: a consistent review follow-up workflow, with AI helping prepare the work and a controlled system handling delivery.

Start with one client location and one service-completion signal. A larger software stack can wait. The useful question is whether your agency can run the same process reliably across its clients.

The review follow-up workflow

  • Capture completion. Read a completed-job event from the client’s CRM, booking system or approved export.

  • Check the record. Require a location ID, job ID, customer contact, permitted channel and completion date. Stop incomplete records.

  • Prepare the request. Use an approved template with the client name and correct review destination. AI can draft variations for agency review.

  • Prevent repeat sends. Store a unique key made from the location, job and channel. Check it before sending.

  • Deliver and log. Use the client’s approved email or SMS provider. Record delivery, failures and opt-outs.

  • Report the work. Show requests sent, delivery failures and outstanding follow-up. Keep these separate from new reviews and search rankings.

Where MCP fits

MCP is the interface an assistant uses to access tools. In this blueprint, the assistant can inspect a follow-up queue and prepare a draft. The workflow still controls permissions, duplicate checks and delivery.

Define narrow tools such as list_pending_followups(location_id) and prepare_review_request(job_id). A separate delivery action should require an approved record. These are proposed tool definitions, not a claim that a product supplies them out of the box.

An n8n workflow can connect documented APIs and process the records. A compatible MCP server can expose the specific workflow actions to your assistant. Keep credentials in the workflow credential store, with each client location scoped to the correct account. See the n8n documentation for supported integrations and configuration.

What to buy on AppSumo

Buy only after the build’s requirements are clear. Confirm the exact plan includes the API, webhook or native MCP access you need. A product being listed on AppSumo does not establish that access.

For this first edition, Roundups.ai supplied a research shortlist. It selected SheerSEO, SkyRocket Widget and Local Rank Tracker. That shortlist did not establish an MCP review follow-up stack, so these are not presented as tested recommendations.

SheerSEO has documented ranking APIs, which suit a visibility-reporting use case rather than sending review requests. Its AppSumo listing showed sold out when checked on October 2, 2026. API access under a particular lifetime plan also needs confirmation. Check the AppSumo listing.

Acceptance checks before a client goes live

  • An incomplete customer record stops without sending.

  • Replaying the same completed job does not send a second request.

  • An opted-out customer is excluded.

  • A provider failure creates a visible retry or review item.

  • The correct client location and review link appear in every request.

  • Requests are offered consistently; the workflow does not select only happy customers or offer rewards for positive reviews.

This article is a build blueprint. A client-connected implementation has not been tested here. Validate with sample records, then a controlled client pilot.

FAQs

Do I need a native MCP product?

No. A documented API can be connected through an MCP bridge. Confirm authentication, supported actions and plan access before buying.

Does this improve Google rankings automatically?

No ranking improvement is promised. Track workflow delivery and review activity separately from visibility measures.

Can this become an agency service?

Yes. Scope setup, monitoring, reporting and client support as a recurring service. Define what the agency delivers before choosing tools.
